Owensboro Symphony Celebrates Legendary John Williams

On Saturday evening March 3, 2018, just twenty-four hours before the 2018 Oscars, join Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony as they celebrate the work of John Williams, the movie composer with the greatest number of Oscar statues to his name and some of the greatest music of our time. Relive the iconic soundtracks from Star Wars, E.T., Jurassic ParkHarry Potter and others.

“This concert is one of those rare events you will be talking about years from now. The music of John Williams is the soundtrack of our lives, he is ingrained in the very fabric of American culture,” said Troy Quinn, Music Director and Conductor for the Symphony. “Hearing this film music live, with a 75 piece orchestra, is an experience you won’t want to miss as we celebrate the great American composer of film. We are pulling out all the stops for this one night only event!”

John Williams’ name is attached to major Hollywood blockbusters, including Jurassic Park, Harry Potter movies, Indiana Jones, Home Alone and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He has won five Academy Awards and 24 Grammy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. With 51 Academy Award nominations, Williams is the second most-nominated individual after Walt Disney. In 2005, the American Film Institute selected Williams’ score to 1977’s Star Wars as the greatest American film score of all time.

Starting out as a jazz pianist, Williams moved to Los Angeles and began to work in film and TV. Along with his movie score work, he has been the music director of the Boston Pops Orchestra, written the theme for NBC’s Meet the Press, and composed symphonies and concertos.

“There has been a rush for tickets for this event,” said Dan Griffith CEO of the Symphony. “Based on advance sales, I expect we will have a full house. Cannon Hall will be filled with everyone’s favorite movie music, spectacular lighting and visual effects, all of which will bring the hall alive!” Pre-concert fun will include some of your favorite movie characters in costume for photo opportunities. This is a concert experience not to be missed!

At 6:15 p.m., prior to the 7:00 p.m. symphony performance, Troy Quinn will host Behind The Music With Troy Quinn. “This pre-concert conversation with Troy is quickly becoming a “must attend” event for concert attendees. The community is really enjoying their time with Troy as he gives all the fun facts about the concert and shares about those who play a part in the performance,” said Sara Jackson, Director of Marketing for the Symphony.
