Date Night at the Owensboro Symphony

OWENSBORO, KY – Great drama makes for great stories – and that demands great music! To commemorate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, on Saturday evening, January 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in Cannon Hall, Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony will present romantic symphonic music from the 19th and 20th centuries, that offers patrons multiple composers’ perspectives of Shakespeare’s famous love story – Romeo and Juliet.

The performance will open with  Felix Mendelssohn’s ever popular Wedding Marchfrom A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The “Wedding March” is one of the best known pieces from Mendelssohn’s suite of incidental music to William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It is one of the most frequently used wedding marches today, generally being played on a pipe organ.

Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony will also celebrate the sounds of Shakespeare on film, with Bernstein’s One Hand, One Heart from West Side Story, Rota’s Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet and the good old-fashioned romance of Warbeck’s Shakespeare in Love.

“The writings of Shakespeare have provided the inspiration for some of the most romantic works of all time. This is a perfect concert to bring that special someone and enjoy an evening of beautiful music from film and the concert stage. Hearing these lush melodies come to life will be a moving experience that promises to have you on your feet,” says Quinn.
