Opening Night to Showcase Large and Vibrant Symphony

OWENSBORO, KY –  A new Owensboro Symphony season begins on Saturday evening, October 26, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. when Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony return to the Cannon Hall stage in Owensboro’s RiverPark Center. Quinn has programmed an evening that promises to take his audience on an epic journey. “It’s truly an Opening Night program that is sure to please everyone,” said Quinn. “This program will feature the largest orchestra of our entire season! It will be an Opening Night performance not to be missed.”

The concert opens with the powerfully emotional and passionate Prelude and Parade of the Charioteers by composer Miklós Rózsa, from the 1959 movie classic, Ben-Hur. Featured on the first half of the program is the Emmy award winning theme from the hit TV show, Game of Thrones, followed by Ontorino Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and Camille Saint-Saëns crowd pleasing Danse Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila.

Quinn and the Symphony will open the second half of the concert with two movements from Carl Neilsen’s Aladdin Suite, Festive March and Aladdin’s Dream. The evening will conclude in epic fashion with a surround sound of off-stage brass in one of Respighi’s crowning achievements, his Pines of Rome, which features one of the biggest endings in all of orchestral music.

For patrons who have always wondered what it would be like to be on stage sitting next to a musician, Opening Night will afford them that opportunity. GoPro cameras will be strategically placed throughout the ensemble and live images from those cameras will be projected on the back scrim wall of the stage, giving patrons the feeling of sitting in the middle of the Symphony. “Patrons truly enjoy the visual interaction that the GoPros deliver,” said Gwyn Payne, Symphony Deputy CEO. “The Saint-Saëns Danse Bacchanale will really come alive with the use of this technology. It’s a really a neat technical offering we are able to deliver.”

Concert attendees are encouraged to join Troy Quinn in Cannon Hall from 6:15 to 6:40 p.m. for a special pre-concert conversation about the Opening Night performance.  This program, designed to enhance the concert experience, will provide insights into the music and music-makers performing on the program – go Behind the Music with Troy Quinn!

THE FUN CONTINUES AFTER THE CONCERT! Concert attendees are invited to share a toast with Troy Quinn, in celebration of the beginning of his third season! Join Troy and the Owensboro Symphony on the patio at the conclusion of the concert.
